Chavez: A poke in the eye, or worse, for Pres. Obama and Sec. of State Clinton

When Barack Obama was elected president, President Hugo Chavez of Venezuela indicated he would work to improve relations with the USA when the new president assumed office, unlike the way he acted when President Bush was in charge…  After President Obama was inaugurated, the Obama administration made friendly overtures to Chavez and to the other leftist leaders of the Americas

But from the beginning of the new president’s term, President Chavez’s actions have not matched his previously expressed conciliatory words…  And this past Friday, reportedly he signed additional cultural, military and economic agreements with Russian Prime Minister Putin (the old school communist),… and more and more it seems the Russian influence in the Americas is growing, while the United States influence is waning, without many noticing…

The Russians tried to gain influence forcefully in the Americas decades ago when they tried to place missiles in Cuba, and now they seem to be entering the Americas simply by strolling in…  Hopefully the Obama Administration is working feverishly underneath it all to thwart the Russians, while on the surface it might seem to be doing little — like a swan swimming in the lake…
